C4 on a flathead

Is anyone on here running a C4 on their flathead? I'm looking to do that to my F3 and wasn't sure if it would be able to haul a car on a tow dolly.

The C4 is a good little transmission and can be inexpensively built to be be nearly bullet proof. As long as it is in good shape to begin with, I see no reason at all that the transmission wouldn't be capable of pulling a car on a tow dolly. It was, after all, original equipment in some light pickup trucks. I honestly think that your limiting factors will be the flathead and the rear gears. If you stick with the stock rear axle and gears, it will pull anything you want but not very fast. If you go to a more highway-friendly ratio, you top speed will increase, but a 100 HP engine is going to start having a tough time pulling much weight at speed.

I changed out the rear axle to get 3:73 gears. I was worried about the flathead. I'll end up putting a 302 in it. Thanks.

Personal opinion, my experience with "average" C-4's (not pro-built for drag racing) behind V8's has not been great. For the same amount of trouble you could put an AOD behind it, have OD and better durability IMO. If you do get a C-4, get EVERYTHING that connects to it -- flex plate, block plate, t.c., etc. There were thousands of variations and piecing a set together is a nightmare.

the automatic route crossed my mind many times now for my flatty . i won't though as losing that long stick 'tween the doors in the floor will eliminate some of the ol' girls " character " . it can be done , isn't cheap , but ...................... i'm putting an 8.8 in the back of my effie , thought it was a 2.73 , but it's a 3.08 for driveability on the open range as it were . running a t-98 four gear with a 6.62:1 first gear so she'll still pull easily enough . blue oval is right with my oe gears , 3.92 , my lil' flatty has pulled as much or more than any dain late model i have had . i just kinda like the idea of driving down the road without her screamin' her a-- off and watching the speedo hover at 45-50 and the fuel gauge drop to the floor so quickly .
