What else is needed to just a tranny from a 5.0 car and throttle valve cable. I am wanting to use it behind a edelbrock 4bbl intake and probably a 390 cfm carb. Unless someone has a better suggestion. Is there a certain linkage i need to hook the tv cable to the carb?
Don't forget you will need to fabricate a rear engine mount. I don't think having the original front mounts and the transmission's rear mount can take the torque. Especially if it's the single, narrow frount mount like the '53 F-100. I KNOW that won't work.
We need to know whether you have a 48-52 or a '53 to answer your question. You should add it to your signature so we don't have to ask and you don't have to type it each time. Your profile only shows a '97 or some such modern truck.
Assuming you have a 48-52, it says the adapters for C-4's will also work for an AOD. You have identified the real problem, a cable hookup for the throttle. The throttle valve adjustment is critical on AODs. I'd check for whether the Edelbrock or Holley 4-bbls have a lever you can attach to. I would guess so, since there are plenty of 5.0's running those style carbs with AODs. But check the web for specifics.
If you have a '53, in some ways you have it easier (no crossmember to hack) and some ways worse (the whole engine mount system isn't likely to work, and the AOD isn't going to have the ears for the BH mounts). But it still might be easier!
Sorry forgot to mention its a 53. I wonder if the stock set up (linkage) off a carb'ed 5.0 fox mustang would work. I have a 79-93 mustang junk yard the next town over im sure i can score parts off of.

Maybe. Do you have multiple carbs on the flattie? If you do, you might be able to use the linkage on the port side of the carbs to connect the throttle valve cable. Even if you have a single carb, you might still be able to use the longer butterfly shaft and parts of the multi-carb linkage to tie in the cable.
I dont have anything but a 8ba flattie with a holley 94. but i was mostly looking at a edelbrock intake and holley 390 4 bbl carb. But yes i would like to do a single carb. I love the look of multi carbs but dont want to deal with tuning them.

If you're going with a modern carb, you shouldn't have any problems. Just get the correct linkage kit for the transmission. The '53 throttle linkage isn't too difficult to modify for the Holly 4-bbl.
Are there any nice intakes for 2 stock carbs for a 8ba? I wouldnt mind going that route. I think i can find someone to help me tune it as i would need some help setting a 4 bbl anyways. Never done much with carbs except dirtbikes and pulling the on and off.

Oh yeah, Edelbrock and Offenhauser both make 3x2-bbl intakes, and offenhauser makes a 2x2-bbl intake. Edelbrock makes a 2x2-bbl, but not for the 49-53.
You can set them up to operate together, or run progressively. Progressively means they operate like a 4-bbl. The first carb opens as much as you want it to, then the second starts to open and they hit WOT (Wide Open Throttle) at the same time.
Anyone know if i would be able to use an AOD from a 87-93 fox mustang? I can find a ton of those. It seems to be a bit tougher to find one from a carb car.
mstng5point0-how did the install go? I would appreciate some guidance. I would like to put an aod behind my flathead, but am curious about what you did for the rear engine mounts. I also have a 53 f100. Pictures or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I have a set up for sale: Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold including two holley carbs all set up on the manifold, comes with fuel pump (glass bowl) and the crank case ventilation all the linkage and plumbing is installed on the manifold and ready to place on your motor. Check up above in the parts for sale thread at the top or PM me. This might be what your looking for. There isn't much tuning involved to make these run nicely.
