Are you running the AC while driving?
Down there in Texas it gets pretty warm and that fan will engage if you have the AC on.
Try turning it off for a few miles and see if it settles down.
.
And here is another vote for retorquing everything under the valve covers. It makes a big difference. Take your contribution test after you do that.

what all does that job entail? i have replaced rocker arms on my old chevy but i have never been in a deisel before, im relatively new to this world. my truck has 206,000 miles on it now and i dont have many friends that like to just 'help' we usually get to drinkin and nothin gets done for a fews days and i cant afford down time now that im working in houston.

if you have done them in a Chevy you can do these. same thing pretty much.
it would take about3 to 4 hours to do both sides. when i did mine my truck had about 215,000 miles on it and i got all the bolts to turn about 1/4 to a 1/2 a turn. made a world of a difference on how it idled.

What he said. Just ignore the fact that it's a diesel.
Pistons, valves, rockers, camshafts, all the same except more robust to handle the deisel ignition.

No gaskets needed. There reusable, same with the tranny pan.

The gaskets are supposed to be reusable, with an o-ring seal around the rim.
They might be a bit hardened up by now, so if it's in the budget, I recommend new ones.
They are a lot less expensive at the local International truck dealer for the exact same parts.
Just ask for valve cover gaskets for a (your year of production) model T444E.
Get the wiring harnesses for the injectors too.
Check very carefully for signs of burned pins in the plugs.

o thats good, you wouldnt happen to know how much torque is required on the rocker arms would you? it has been a while since the ol chevy but grandpa showed me how to listen to it, i'd rather do this one kinda by the book if ya know what i mean.

Your ebp sensor tube might have a hole in it causing the ticking/exhaust leak and possibly the performance issues. Look at guzzle's site for location. http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/ebps.php

well i took the ol beast to town yesterday and pressure washed the radiator out to make sure it wasnt clogged up with bug guts and i reprogrammed my truck down to the 60 hp tow/haul setting on my superchip (seein if it will do any better on fuel). Didnt seem to keep the fan on as much this morning (will try and see again this evening with the weather man sayin feels like 105). and i didnt run my ac which will be hard to do this evening. It seemed to do a little better but like i said i'll wait until this evening to give a little better judgement.

here are some part #'s for you. the two numbers i give you from ford and international are the same part just the different part numbers from each company.

FORD NUMBERS
Valve cover Gasket= F81Z 6584 AA
Under valve cover harness= F81Z 9D930 AB

INTERNATIONAL NUMBERS
Valve cover Gasket= 1826703C1
Under valve cover harness= 1830844C93

and here are the torque values you need under there.

Rocker are pedestal bolts = 20 ft-lbs
Lower injector hold down bolt = 120 in-lbs
valve cover bolts = 8 ft-lbs
