Just signed up on this forum. Have a 1951 F-1 that I am tempting to restore. Had the engine reworked along with front end, brakes and started a new wiring harness about 15 years ago. Finally got around to trying to do the rest myself. I know that I will have a lot of questions in that I am not mechanically inclined. However, I just finished restoring a 1939 Farmall M tractor with the help of a neighbor that has mechanical knowledge. This the type truck I learned how to drive when I was about 11-12 years old so that will tell you something about my age. Yes I am retired and this is my way of getting out of the house each. Don't fish are hunt so I use that to justify what I spend on this hobby. Not sure how to use this forum, but hopefully, I will be able to ask questions and you guys will keep me strait. I need suggestions on which shop manual to purchase along with other material that will help guide me through this project. Also, suggestions on where to obtain parts. Thanks for being patient with me. Harley
Harley, welcome, it is always nice to have another Ford truck enthusiast. Do you have a flathead in the '51 or Y-block? I used to have a Farmall M when I was in Kansas. Now the workhorse is a '54 Ford model 600.
It is a flat head v-8 and think it is a 239 but not sure. First tractor I drove was a 52 8N Ford. Then went to JD green when My brother and I started to Farm some on the side. Still use the green for what little tractor work I do. Just got a chance to get this old Farmall that had been sitting up for about 25 years. It took me 3 years to get it restored, but sure have enjoyed it. I am excited about the F-1 now. Harley
Harley, If you need advice on your Flathead you might be better off visiting the Flathead Forum. Most other questions are kind of generic for things such as brakes or wiring probably can be answered by someone on this forum.
I sure someone here is knowledgable about Flatties, but I think you would find more on the other forum.
