Ok, so first issue I've had with my truck here and my friend that has an 04 is telling me that he thinks it's the turbo. When the truck warms up a little and idles it has the loudest squeal I've ever heard in my life, like a tea kettle inside my ear type thing. Almost sounds like a bad bearing or something. It makes the noise at idle sometimes and other times, real light acceleration. Once you take off it goes away. What has me curious is that it goes away once the isn't idling/low rpms and I don't have a loss in boost, still running close to 30lbs under load. I have 54k on the truck and it's still under warranty, going into the shop next week. I described the sound to them and they said turbo almost without me finishing. Would that make sense that it would still boost with a toasted bearing?
Check the tensioner. Not the pulleys, but the spring part of the tensioner. Mine froze up and had some of the same symptoms. It held the belt tight enough that it looked ok, but any extra load, like the ac turning on, would make the belt squeal until it cought up.
Another voted for something in the accessory belt area. Possible a frozen idler arm or bad pulley, maybe even a bad bearing in an accessory. But with it only at low RPMs It sounds more like it would be an idler arm issue. Does the belt look in good shape?

Tell your friend that if he thinks it's the turbo then he should buy you one and if it fixes the problem then you will reimburse him for it.
Check the belt for cracks. If it's cracked or silvery looking in the grooves swap in a new belt. Like others have said the tensioner may need to be replaced as well.
I'll have to check the belt, as far as I know it's original. Tensioner I can check pretty easy, I'd be surprised because it's so loud.
As the tensioner ages, it's not so.....tension-y. The belt doesn't feel loose but is not as tight as it should be, thereby slipping a little at low rpms (harder to keep the accessories rolling) and when you accelerate (even harder to roll the accessories faster). I had two minivans (insert joke here, I've heard them all ) and the tensioner gave out on each one. As long as it's in the budget, I replace the tensioner when I replace a belt.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure...
I had this happen and it was the exhaust side hose of the turbo. One of the clamps had come loose and was allowing an air leak. I would only notice it when accelerating and would go away when I let off the peddle. It was very loud and sounds like what you are describing. I do not have a boost gauge so I cant tell you any symptoms that may have shown. Just something for you to check.
Just heard from the dealer, the down tube from the turbo had cracked so that's where the noise came from...of course I also had a rear axle seal go that had to be done too.
