ZF 5 noise
Hi, all. I have a 1990 F250 4x4, with a 460. Recently the trans started to make a high-pitched whine when coasting in 1st, 2nd or 3rd. It may make the noise in the higher gears, but I can't hear it, maybe due to the wind, etc. The noise stops when I give it gas, or depress the clutch. I'm hoping it is just the throwout bearing, but have not had a lot of experience with this trans. The engine was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago, but I don't know about the trans. The truck has 120,000 miles on it. I haven't had any issues with the trans in the four years I've owned the truck.
On a side note, Bronco Graveyard has a conversion kit to install an NV 4500 trans. The kit is $700, but the NV seems to be cheaper than the ZF. Has anyone had experience with this swap?
