Couple of simple questions, I just got a 2000 extended cab 4x4 f250, have most of the performance mods I want done, so now its time to set up the sound system....
I have the wiring for my amp, however I'm having trouble locating a bushing that I can pass it through....
My question is whether I'm just missing something...or am I going to have to drill a hole in my firewall...its 4 gauge wire...
not too sure if this is the right section to post this....
Welcome to FTE. 4 ga. is a pretty big wire. Something that size might have to go through one of the plugs in the floor if you don't want to drill the firewall. You can locate the rubber plugs by lying under the truck, then just remove the plastic door trim at the bottom and reach under the carpet to locate.
The other option would be to just pull the seats and carpet and do some sound deadening to the interior of the cab for your new system. Dynomat, Raamatt, etc.
Sweet, thanks! I was just looking around right after posting this and saw those, do they come through near the trim? or will there be fairly big lumps in my floor cuz of the wire? I'm not opposed to drilling the firewall, but in past expierence simple options mean less risk in the long run..
They're not exactly next to the trim. You've got to reach up under there a bit. As for lumps under the carpet, I guess that depends on how picky you are. Could you find a 4 ga. wire under the carpet? I'd say yes. Will it be noticeable to those who don't know it's there? I don't think so. Probably not. I've got my cb cable under there with no issues. You could also run the wire over to the trim and hide it under the trim instead of going straight toward the dash.
There's also a fairly large grommet in the back, behind the back seat. Two actually -- one on one side, one on the other. At least on my Crew Cab there is.
.If you pop the plastic pieces on the floor,You'll see that the wires will fit in the sill along the floor. There's plenty of room under there. After you put'm thru the firewall, Slip a bung over the wire to seal the hole that you make in the firewall. You can make a slit in the carpet under the RR seat just big enough to put feed the wires thru by where the amp will be mounted. If you plan to mount the amp on the rear back panel, you can run the wires all the way down the sill and up the back panel, make a slit in the RR panel and pull your wires thru there as well. Or pull them out of the vent slot's as well.
Home town is sacramento, go to school in central washington though.
So countrycar what I hear you saying is to drill a hole in the firewall, put some type of bushing around the wire in the hole. Depending on where the holes in the floor are I might bring the wire up through there, but I dont really like the idea of having it running underneath the truck like that. I prefer to put it through the firewall if possible.
What it seems like is that there are no holes in the firewall that will allow me to pass a 4AWG wire through them

If you look right above the PCM, you'll see a rubber plug on the firewall. This is where you want to pass you wire thru, and terminate it at the battery. (I thought I had made a hole in the firewall and had to double check). I made a small slit in the rubber plug in the firewall, Right above the PCM. Once your there you can push the wire under and behind the kick panel. If you pull the plastic door sills on the floor, they'll pop right up. Run the wire in the channels under there to the back. The back panel on the wall pops out as well. Once you remove that back wall panel, it'll give you a better idea of where you want to route/terminate your wire's. Back to the Firewall, I used a piece of FatMat (Engine Bay side),to seal the hole I made in the rubber plug on the firewall. This will keep out the noise, water, heat etc. My stereo system use's the same red 4 gauge hot lead from the batteries to the Amps as well. Both my amps are mounted under the RR seat on my Crew Cab. Hope this helps yah out.
On edit: No I wouldn't run the wire under the cab on the frame rail. JMO.
On edit: In the engine bay, you can zip tie the 4 gauge hot lead to the hood release cable along the fender to keep it safe/secure.
If you ever choose to add Driving/Fog lights, you can use this same route as well, and zip tie it all up tight. Just makes it neat.
May be a stupid question, but seeing as I just got this truck 2 weeks ago, i'm still gettin familiar with the layout under the hood. Where exactly is the PCM? i'm assuming its on the drivers side. I have a DP tuner chip and boost and egt gauges, which run two wires (as far as I can tell) through the firewall through one of the rubber gromets that is to the right of where the turbo is, is this the hole your thinking about? looks too small for 4g wire....
Doing the wiring in the morning, will try to look for the place above the PCM like you said. If you have any pics it would be greatly appreciated!
Yeah you can't miss it. It's oval shaped about 1.5"w X 2.5' L. Just gotta get down and stick your head under there with a light and you'll see it. As you stated above and to the right of the pcm.
hmm, just was looking and I see nothing as big as your talking. There is a small one on the other side of the steering column, but its no where near as big as 1.5x2.5...do you have an automatic of maunal? maybe theres a difference? mines a stick
