Several years ago I read an article in FOURWHEELER magazine about a magnetic drain plug that allowed inspection and removal of metal chips without draining the engine oil. I also believe it did not require tools to drain the oil or inspect for chips. This bit of information is hiding somewhere in seven years worth of FOURWHEELER. It remains elusive. I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who has information or experience with this product.
Yes I know what you are talking about. I also remember the drain plug. It had two pins in the middle of it you could check with an ohm meter to detect metal in the pan that was across the two pins.
There is an interesting article in my favorite woodworking tool site" Lee Valley.com" Letter section number 32.
They sell rare earth magnets that you can stick to your oil filter, the theory is that, as your oil moves through your oil filter, the magnet catches all them little bits of metal, when you change your oil filter, remove the magnet and stick it back on the new one.
The earth magnets have lots of uses but be careful they are extremely powerfull and if you get them to close to credit cards no more credit card, same with your tape deck etc..
