Motor oil question

I had my oil changed the other day and they raised the price to $88 from $58 . They are now charging a bottled oil fee . The truck has had Delo run in it since new and has 133,000 on the clock . I change every 3000 miles . My question is has anyone run the new Valvoline diesel oil yet ? The oil change place is a valvoline dealer and wants me to change brands .

I've been using 15w-40 Vavoline conv. since I bought my 2000 F250 4x4 Lariat back last Nov. 08.... I change it every 3k-5k or 3months depending on type of driving.... I use the Mobile One filters...

My turbo seems to spin more freely now that I've changed the oil a few times... I hope that means this Vavoline Oil is doing a better job lubing the parts?

I have no complaints the oil keeps good and doesn't burn off any unless I really punch it... but my truck has 153k on it and 143k of it was from another owner... but no problems seen yet with the truck just my tension pulley went out on me April 09 when I was in Kansas... but no big thing....

I get 20mpgs on highway going 65-70..... I drive very conservatively. Most of the time I drive 60 good even number for highway.... in town I get 15-17mpg

Valvoline is good oil -- I would run it without a second thought if I didn't run syn. You shouldn't need to change it that often though. 5k should be good, and I'd get it checked with Blackstone just to see how it's working out.

I was thinking more along the lines of a dedicated diesel oil . I am lucky enough to have a powerstroke specielty shop just down the road from me and they recommend oil changes @5000 . These are what Valvoline has to offer .

I was talking about the Valvoline Premium Blue® Engine Oil 15w-40 its a conventional oil..
It works very well...I've never used Synthetic Engine Oil. So I can't comment on its value.... I don't hear to many bad things said though.... I'm sure its better than nothing

Wink

My vote is for suggesting that you start changing your own oil, switch to Shell Rotella Synthetic and a Motorcraft FL-1995 filter readily available at any WalMart, if you don't have a catch pan or a large oil filter wrench you will have to buy these once though.....then take the used oil to a local chain auto parts store for recycling....save a few bucks and run your oil even longer-I've been advised that I can get at least 7.5k out of mine w/o problems by Blackstone labs.......just a thought....

switch to a synthetic oil and you can go farther between oil changes, start easier in winter and safe money in the long run. Any good synthetic 5w-40 should do you as long as it has the diesel rating on it. I am currently using AMSOIL in mine and even using a 10000 mile change interval it is cheaper then DINO oil I was using. Also Consider the amount of oil in these engines and even under severe service with DINO oil you are still looking art a 5000 mile recommended change. 3000 miles is a waste of money.

Mine will burn 1.5 quarts in 3 grand . I do mostly city driving . Im like 2 miles from work so it never really gets warmed up . Also 4 miles from the gulf so only 18 hrs. per year under 32* F . My machinist suggested rotella .

You sure you don't have a leak. I can go oil change to oil change and not use a drop. I switched over to synthetic as it is a better lubericant and will start doing oil analysis to determine when best to change it. I was doing 5k on the rotella 15w40.

Im doing 7500 intervals on Rotella 15w40 and go through about 1-1.5 qts. every change, on average.

After looking inside a friends Mack engine he used Valvoline in for less than 100k miles I pretty much classed it with Quakerstate

Burning off that much is not that bad, for motors is about a quart every 3k miles. That is still considered ok.

Another vote for rotella t. I had a bad experience with vavoline gear oil a few years back in a tcase on an offroad toy. Ruined me from ever using it again.

A dealership will even consider 1 quart every 500 miles as normal...and that's on a gas engine ! I can only wonder what they would consider normal for a diesel...
