I sectioned the cowl of my 56 also, the wiper motor ended up behind the panel directly in front of the driver's door. I used a late model VW motor and a single rod driving both wipers. Note that I converted to a 55 linkage assembly because you will lose the stock openings when you section the cowl. The 53-55 windshield is basically the same contour in the wiper area so the sweep is good and clean. Pictures in my gallery. Note that Chip's boys wedge cut the truck and actually went through the hood sides and took almost nothing out of the back of the cab, it now has a big window conversion in it's stock dimensions. Ton of work no matter how you do it.

Now that i have seen fatfenders56 gallery i fully understand what you have been trying to tell me AX at first it didnt make sense dropping into the cowl but thats pretty cool and genious. I still like my air vent though and plan to keep moving forward with my original idea. Great pics fatfenders56 dash looks awesome.

You could do what i have done with my 56 and just slide it up into the cab but you will have to cut away the top pinch weld to slide it up. I have some pics in my gallery of what i have done and also check out the post about cutting my windshield lots of good reading.
Having done a chop on a '55 I can tell you first hand you have to add metal in both the width and front to back. The slant cabs as they are called get the name because the A pillar slants making the cab bigger at the bottom. The cab is also wider at the beltline than at the rain gutter. So the more you chop it the more metal is needed in both directions.

"The plan is to chop it about 2-3" and move and retain the entire rear glass. My question is has anyone retained all or most of the windshield by laying it back? "

A 2-3" chop is way too much to get rid of by leaning back...scratch that Idea.
Making it a 4 door is way more difficult than chopping the top.....
Because of the curve in the door width you have to completly rebuild the doors.....check my gallery

I'm still here and trying to learn. I appreciate the words of wisdom and ideas.

At this point, I have spent several hours measuring a cab and have some idea of what some of the hurdles are going to be. The rest is just laying there in bed pondering the whole thing when I can't get back to sleep after a FD run.

Since I doubt it would need to be cut from vinyl wider than 24" there are a lot of sign shops that can print it on vinyl for you, the 24" printers are well within a larger shop's budget. The wrap places printers print on 4' wide or bigger material and are super expensive hence they charge big $$ just to fire it up and there would be a lot of wasted vinyl. If you have a high quality digital file of your pinup and can't find anyone to print it let me know, I know people that can do it.

Keith, there are a bunch of shops right in your neighborhood, give them a try, hell, call Foose, I'm sure he knows of an airbrush guy. I think the guy that did the paint on John Force's 56 bus also does murals, can't hurt to ask, may even get a good laugh when you hear the price. Keep us posted
