Hi Guys, Got a situation that I want some feedback on. Just aquired the 07,and the odometer backlighting is out. From what I can tell, this is not an un-common problem.
Problem is that evidently these lights go out relatively often, and replacing it is a pita.
The dealership shows it to be a normal incandesent lamp/socket assy.
Needless to say they didnt have one in stock(this tells me im not the only one with this problem)...I wonder if there is a way to convert this lamp/socket assy to an LED. If anyone has looked into this, get back with me.An LED will outlast the truck.Especially with technology as it is,Ive seen high output LEDs brighter than their incandescent counterparts..
If someone out there can give me a part number of that lamp/socket,Ill go get one,and make the conversion, and post it here for others.....
Ineresting thought. But how well, well a LED work in a dimable circuit? I'm not saying they won't I'm just wondering.
Good point...but the newer LED,s are pretty much just as "dimmable" as their incadescent counterparts.Besides the required dropping resistor can be selected to give the proper intensity. Glad to finally get a response here.I dont even know what color the backlighting is supposed to be in this case.Just dont want to tear into my new 07 baby without knowing I can get it back together, and fixed....
I don't believe that the problem is that common. I do believe you can get that bulb at any parts store. Look for a long-life bulb to replace it with if you can't find a way to LED it. It lights up green by the way.
Hope this helps

Regular cab 4.2 automatic,36,750 on the odometer. This is the XL version. The same exact setup as the 97 I traded in. IT had 168,000 miles on it without any major "burps"....kinda miss the ole girl, but the 07 is a SWEET ride.
I have the same problem with my '05. Only with mine it goes out and then later down the road it will be back on, like a short. In the winter though it will start off being out and once the truck has warmed up it would come on. Something in the cluster I'd say but it hasn't bothered me enough to tear into it.

Awesome! I had a 2000 4.2 Regular cab 5-speed. I loved that thing. It had 133,000 miles on it when I got rid of it. I miss that thing so bad (mainly because it was a 5-speed). You will love that truck. The 4.2 seems to be a bullit-proof motor.

It could have a loose connection, or the socket could have come loose. It isn't a very big job to get to it. In fact, when you do it once, it will take you 1/2 the time to do it again.
