Engine knocking at startup
That way we get the most cleaning action for the buck spent!!!!
So for the optimum effect, it's best to use the Techron with a Chevron, Texaco, or Caltex gas that alredy has some Techron in it & if your going to do that, run most of the present tank out before adding the Techron & filling up at the pump.
Techron can be used with any fuel, but we may not get it's full effect if the other fuels ad pack chemistry & Techron aren't synergistic.
So, if we're going to use another fuel, just add the Techron at the pump before tanking up, so we get a good mixing as we fill.
The 20oz size is for up to 20gal, so it's a one/oz per gallon treat rate.
If AutoZone still has their 12oz size at a two for one deal on for Techron, you could get two 12 oz bottles for less cost than the 20oz size & have some left over for the lawn & garden equiptment!!!!
After adding it, do some daily spirited driving, with accelerations & runs above 3500 rpm for 2-3 miles to get rid of any carbon deposits the Techron has loosened up & run most of the treated tank out.
If you suspect the engine is loaded up with carbon, do a second treatment, then continue to use a Techron treated gas & you shouldn't have to use any more Techron Concentrate!!!!
EDIT: We could get the same cleaning effect with the Techron fuels alone, it would just take longer & require about 5 tanks, or 1000 miles of driving.
All that said, Techron has always been nitrogen enhanced for the past 11 years, so maybe consider using it with Shell, which is also a "Top Tier" fuel.
Any fuel that claims it's ad pack will clean up the injectors, intake valves & combustion chamber, without adding to the combustion chamber deposit load, might be a canadate, but not knowing their ad pack recipe, how synergistic they'll be with Techron is unknown.
Yup Ford recommends BP, even though it isn't a "Top Tier" fuel.
So seeing as how you believe you got positive results with it, maybe consider running at least 5 tanks of it, or 1000 miles of driving, then switch to say Texaco or Chevron, for 5 tanks, or 1000 miles.
It's said that it takes about that many miles of driving, or that many tanks of fuel, for one brands ad pack detergents, to remove the others engine deposits.
I've found on my 99 4.0L, that I can switch gas brands every 6 months, when I change my oil & fiter, as it's easier for me to remember that way & still be able to keep my CCDI in check.
If I hear the start up marble noise coming back, I just do a gas brand switch on the next fill up.
I've recently gotten good results on BP, so it may be a go-to canidate for me.
Right now I'm retrying the new recipe Shell, after miserable results with it about 6-7 years ago.
I'm on my third tank of it right now, so we'll see if it's better than last time, when the CCDI returned on the third tank of their then new "V Power" gas. The Ranger 4.0L sure didn't like that recipe at all!!!!
My Merc Marine engine didn't like it either, so I stopped trying to use it back then.
Anyway since Chevron & Texaco merged & both now use Techron, I've been years now, trying to find another good go-to gas, who's ad pack recipe would also clean combustion chamber deposits, like Texaco's old "Clean System-3 recipe & Chevrons Techron did, to keep my 4.0L CCDI in check, so I appreciate the feedback on BP!!!!
Anyway try alternating between the fuel brands that work best for you, every 5'th tank, or 1000 mles & see if it'll keep the deposit knock at bay!!!
