Ok all you blue oval fans, I bought this 1971 ford f100 4x4 back in 2000. It has the explorer package that was a limited time offer in 71.In the nine years i have owned it i have never seen another like it.Seen a hand full of 2 wheel drives but no four wheel drives. It has the lime gold paint code (s) a 360 FE 4 bbl 4 spd and 16 inch wheels with dana 44/nine inch axles the vin is f11yrk61900 with a build date off 12-70 any info would be greatly appretiated. Has any one out there ever seen one?
Nope it's a factory Limited edition trim and option package. They were only made a few months out of the year, some included special paint colors and seat and interior trim not avaliable on regular models. And no year was exactly the same. Also certain options were included as standard equipment, and/or at a significantly reduced price.
The Explorer ran from 1968-1986.
From 1973 on, the Explorer also sported limited edition striping.
The truck was made in December 1970, came with a 360 v-8 and 2 barrel carb and 4 wd. It was made in San Jose, California. The rest of the info on your door tag would be needed to tell anything more about it. Should be a nice truck.
Ford did build a lot of limited edition packages in those days. There are/were trucks out there with odd combinations of options or dealer installed options. There are also oddballs out there with options that do not appear in dealer order forms or parts books but they are factory installed. That's part of what makes these trucks fun to own.
BTW, 360 engines came with 2 barrel carbs only. The 4 barrel setup may have been installed by a PO or the dealer. Another possibility is the engine is actually a 390. 390's were not an option in 4x4 trucks.
Okay,so other than the Package C and Pk D models, all the other stuff was mostly relatively minor dress up trim stuff, that might get ordered separately. Ford just packaged and marketed it cleverly

You are correct on some of the options that were standard, yes.
However, regarding the Special Exterior and interior Paint colors, and Seating material, patterns and fabric, and some interior trim. Those were Explorer specific, not avaliable on any other model.
