hi
ive read through some previous threads and i have an idea but since this is a pricey buy i want to be 100% correct.
i have a 73 f150 2x4 5 bolt
i belive it would be 5x5.5 but not sure of the rest
if someone could give me the numbers i need so that i can start looking that would be great
i really like the look of the cragar ss
You also need to know the diameter of the center bore. It's 4.25. I say this because I have seen many 5 on 5.5 wheels in the junkyard, but not all of them had the correct center size for my truck. Many were too small. A lot of the Cragar SS I have seen have a 3.710 center bore.
By the way...I didn't know there was such a thing as a '73 F150. If you tell the wheel people that, you may confuse them.
why would that confuse them? were there not many made? it comes up on the auto parts websites?
i just checked my vin it has f10 as first three (this means F100) which is truck series but my ownership says model-f-150
i thought the 100 s had a 6ft box mabey im wrong ....any thoughts?
There were no F150s until 1975. Up until then, they were F100, F250, F350...
The F150 was born out of some kind of emissions thing.
By "confuse them" I meant that if you go in to a store or go online looking for stuff for a 73 F150,it may not exist on their system as such. The F100 and the F150 are essentially the same basic truck, though.
F100s can be long box or short box or flareside. Mine is a long box.
wow i did not no that. thanks for the info, ive only had the truck for a few months and am learning. so will the 3.75 be ok quite a difference from the 4.25
hey ken those rims look sweet

You want wheels with the 4.25 center bore...otherwise it won't fit if the center bore is only 3.75.
Are you replacing the wheels on the truck pictured in your avatar? If so, I would like to buy the wheel covers from you.

If you are talking about the backspacing, then yes, it will be fine. The lower the number on the backspacing, the less distance there is from the lug nut pads on the wheels to the very outer lip of the inner wheel. Simply put, it means that with an 8 inch rim, you will have 4.25 inches of wheel outside the lugs. The wheels and tires will stick out farther than stock by an inch and a quarter.
What you have to be careful about is increasing the backspacing. If you get too much, the wheels will hit stuff.
As Jermafenser said, you have to get rims that have the 4.25 center bore...otherwise they will not even begin to fit.
thanks for the help guys i think i understand now. forsure when i get my rims ill let you know jermafenser. i was even thinking 15 for the back and 14 for the front

I'll have to agree with Dirt Racer. You want them all the same size...regardless of there not being a 14" wheel that will fit these trucks as far as I know.
It makes your spare tire a lot more useful, you can keep them rotated properly, and I think it just looks better when they are all the same size. I wouldn't monkey around with the width either...8s all the way around...but that's just me.
Besides paint and chrome, rims are one of the first things that people notice about your ride. Think about what kind of impression you want to make.
