When I bought a bed strip kit from Mar-K it came with a printed bed assembly and installation guide. I went on line and they have a pretty generic guide that you can view for nothing and they have the instructions available for sale also. Here is a link to the generic install and assembly guide.

The fastest thing I have found is "Must for Rust". It is in a spray bottle at Home Depot and it cleans metal very well and protects the metal for up to 1 year. While I am not sure about the 1 year thing, it kept my part in great shape until I was ready to prime and paint.

Assembly instructions are dependent on how you plan to assemble the bed...the original bed had the two sides bolted to the header panel and the rear sill welded. Today you have the option of welding or using structural adhesive...as long as you get the bed square and level the method of attaching the pieces together is up to you. I would caution that you mount the tailgate first and be sure you have the proper gaps before welding in the lower sill.
