I got a new phone last January and I downloaded a mileage tracker app for it. I've been faithfully keeping track of my mileage since then (ok, I missed one fill-up, but I filled in approximate values so it's not far off) and here are the results.
Since 1/5/09, I have filled up 20 times. I have burned 475 gallons of fuel at an average cost of 2.42/gallon. I have traveled 6412 miles, getting an average of 12.80 MPG. Best was 14.89, worst was 10.65. I average 320 miles between fill-ups, the furthest I have ever gone was 420 miles.
I have spent $1159.06 on fuel this year. OUCH!
I don't drive like a maniac, but I don't baby it either. I have taken it to Reno/Tahoe at least five times since January, so a lot of the fuel burned was going uphill. I also commuted for the first three months of this year so I put a lot more miles than normal on it during that time.
