Hypertech Speedo Calibrator

Has anyone used one of these?

Hypertech Speedometer Calibrator PN:742002.

My truck has an SCT X3 tuner, but this does not effect the ABS Controller, which controls the speedo. An my 39" tires throu=w things off a bit, and the deisel mechanic can only mod the ABS controller, so I understand, to 36" tires.

Eric @ Innovative mentioned the Superlift Truspeed, which actually splices into the data lines for the ABS Controller, and modifies the actual digintal signal, if I'm not misunderstood.

Does the hypertech, which connects through the ODB-II port, actually change/reprogram the ABS Controller? It appears that this is the way to go, since it can reprogram the truck an infinite amount fo times for gear/tires changes (AND WORKS UP TO 54" tires). There is a superchips version which only works to 36".

Any experience, anyone? Thanks.

i went to ford to have mine done and they told me it couldnt be done. i know they are wrong cause i am from texas and nearly everytruck is lifted with bigger tires and i know theres arent all off. plus my dad bought the juice with attitude and his had all the features for that in it and his reset the speedo. so i know it can be done

I got a reply from Eric @ www.Innovativediesel.com (who awesomely programmed my SCT X3) and he said to stay away from those devices that reprogram the truck for speedo correction via OBD-II port.

He said that he felt the best item for the job, which modifies the signal before it gets to the onboard computer, is the SUPERLIFT TRUSPEED (PN: 33001 for '03 F350). It looks rather simple to install, is $250-ish, and supposedly does the job really nicely. He said they are hard to keep in stock. I found it on ebay for $230 from summitracing. So I ordered one last night and will get it in a few days, then I'll report back, after installation.

I just recommended the SuperLift – Tru Speed in another thread. (here).
I took my time when shopping around for the unit so I did end up with a pretty good deal compared to the $250ish range you've found. It's been a while, but I'm sure I paid around $160.00 CDN for mine.

Hypertech emailed me back rather quickly, and said: We program the ABS and do not alter the PCM." But eric @ innovative really likes the Superlift Tru-Speed, so that's what I going to use. $160CND is an incredible price. I couldn't find it less that $210 USD anywhere.

How long did it take you to install? How do you set the Diff/tire size variables? The pics look like there is nothing but the switch on the unit. It'll likely be here next week, but I was just wondering, since you've already installed it. Thanks.

It was a local 4x4 shop that sold me the unit. I do remember that it was a sealed very dusty box so it was probably time to move the product.

I took my time following the directions and sealing up the wire splices so I'm sure It took me a couple hours at least.

To set the tire size you move the switch to the left or right and use a little flat head key to turn a small adjuster wheel to the disired possition. When you move the switch to the other side you can make a new calibration setting and be able to switch back and forth between them.

I used a GPS for the calibration. It worked very well for me. I would recommend maybe having a passenger with you to make the adjustments while your driving. I was able to do it, but I do remember thinking it would have been nice having someone with me watching the speedo and making the adjustments while I drove and watched the GPS speed.

That's what I'll do - take my time and do it right. Thanks for the info about how to set it up. Now it makes sense.

I'll definetely use someone else in the truck while dialing it in. I can use a GPS setup I have and could verify the calibration to another car on a two lane road while talking on cell phones. Kind of a rig-job verification, but I'd like it to be correct on all aspects. Thanks.

be careful setting the truspeed, good to have two people... there are other ones out there, the speed wizard for example allows you to set it while parked, it shows you the old speed on the dash board then the new speed. they are all good products and all get the job done been running the wiz since early 06 in mine kenny
