VSM bad internal antenna

Key fobs only work if I put them within 4 inches of the VSM, 2004 Expedition, has anyone else seen this type of failure?? TIA. Yes, both key fobs have fresh batteries, 3.03 v And 2.97 v, one is original to truc, other is after market, both work fine within 4 inches of VSM 🤪🤪 Thanks for any guidance.

Might be a cracked solder joint inside the VSM. If you're handy with a soldering iron, it should be easily repairable as it's not difficult to open the VSM.
