Looking for some assistance for my 2006 Lincoln Navigator. I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. When I drive on the freeway and maintain a cruising speed of about 40 mph I get a noticeable hesitation or knock when I accelerate to pass a vehicle almost like something is clogged. This only happens between 40 mph and 60mph when I'm in 4th gear. It does not occur any other time. I changed my fuel filter, cleaned my MAF Sensor, and tried fuel system cleaning products, but the problem still exists. My check engine light is not on and I plug in my scanner, but there are no codes. Has anyone else had this problem? My boss has a Ford F150 and it's starting to do the same thing.
Sounds like a intermittent misfire, these are difficult to catch without the correct scantool. If you could have someone with Ford IDS hooked up in the passenger seat, you could look at the power balance graph to see with cylinder is missing when it happens, other than that it's hard to figure out until it throws a code. As a general thing, you could check spark plugs and the coils (especially the rubber boots).

Had the same exact symptoms with my 06 Navvy. When is the last time you changed the plugs and coil packs? Sounds like it may be time. My suggestion... Go ahead and spend the money and change ALL the plugs and coils at the same time rather than trying to chase down one or two that are bad now because if one is starting to go chances are the others are not far behind. Good luck.
Mine runs ok normal and under full throttle. Under medium throttle it stumbles but not all the time. Changed fuel filter and it had silt in it looks grey even. Has P0300 random misfire & P0171, P0174 system to lean. I'm thinking I should check rail pressure next. TIA

A bad cam phaser can cause some strange codes to fire too since it controls the fuel consumption and exhaust via the valves. Have you heard any ticking coming from the top front of the either side of the engine?
standing beside drivers door with hood closed I might hear a slight tick. drove this morning still same thing but now it says lean bank 1 no more bank 2. also misfire cyl 8. cleared drove again no cel no codes but miss fire cyl 4 16, cyl 7 168, cly 8 3488. i'm more into diesel now then gas I know cylinder arraignments on the ol fords but not this one. do you know cyl arraignment and firing order. its a 32 valve
Just reading on another site he has washer fluid coming down drivers side on firewall is this where cyl 8 is if so spraying the window this morning drivers side don't spray worth a pinch of. I have no info on this truck my buddy is in the scrap business and got it for next to nothing its in good shape for the year just this little problem it has about 275000 kilometers on it

Check the LTFT (Long Term Fuel Trims) for both bank bank #1 and bank #2. If both are over ~28%, it could be from a weak fuel pump, but more that likely it is a vacuum leak. Make sure the oil dip stick is seated and that the dip stick tube is seated and does not have any rust holes in it. Then check the fresh air side of the PCV system to see if the fresh air hose is in good shape and seated in the cam cover back under the windshield. Finally, check the integrity of the EVAP purge hose between the intake and the purge valve. The EVAP fumes tend to make that hose turn mushy.
