Well, got the new manifolds on and got the exhaust pipe on. Went on without a problem. The pipe only cost $117 from CarX. I put two cherry bombs on it. The truck sounds good but it still has an exhaust leak. I cant figure it out. Its on the passenger side. I guess I will try to tighten the bolts more but I dont think it will fix it.
i am still trying to figure out what i am going to go with muffler wise, i plan on dual exhaust, with side exits on each side infront of the rear tires,
maybe cherry bombs, but i am also thinking magnaflows, still not sure yet,

With it running, take an old piece of garden hose, put it to your ear, and direct it around the edges of the flanges as well as the collectors. Yeah, both sides...hey, if you're doing it for one you might as well check the others! This will hopefully allow you to pinpoint where exactly the leak is and tighten accordingly. You don't want to over-tighten bolts on headers.
Actually, I wish I had seen this thread sooner...as far as selecting headers, the header pipes themselves tend to be very similar among brands, if not identical. It's the flange thickness that really makes a difference. The cheep headers with thin flanges generally do not seal well and end up leaking over time. When I start looking at headers for mine, I'm going with a minimum flange thickness of 3/8" and 14 gauge tubing...even if I have to have them custom made.
Ok, really need help on this one bad. I found where the exhaust leak is. There is some kind of whole on the back of the passenger head that is blowing exhaust out. Looks like there needs to be some kind of plug in it. I have no clue on this one. Does anyone have an idea where I can get something to plug the hole? I pulled the plug off the back cylinder and the truck doesnt run any different. I think this hole is making it loose compression.
What I ment was the truck is already running like crap and shaking. With me unplugging that spark plug, the truck doesnt run any worse.
So there is no valve in there that it might get caught on? I couldnt just buy a new plug somewhere?
Is this something I will have to take the head off to do? I think I might be able to get something in there without taking the head off but it looks tight.
No. It's a part of the emissions package where the exhaust air is mixed with fresh air to lessen emissions out of the tailpipe. It is merely classified an exhaust leak, because the problem could be duplicated somewhere past the manifolds.
I'd contact NumberDummy...he probably has the references to the plugs.
You could do without taking it off if you could stand working in tight spots.
I believe that this plug is like a small freeze plug and is just pressed into the head. I don't believe the hole is threaded.
If there is enough room for you to work you should be able to replace it without pulling the head.
As far as the truck running bad, this wouldn't have anything to do with that. It's simply an exhaust leak, nothing more.
Do the regular troubleshooting for the bad running. Tune it up, if that doesn't solve the problem, run a compression test to see if there is a problem somewhere else.
Well, the trucks had a tune up. Just put new plugs in today and rebuilt the carb last year.
How long has it been running badly? Has it always been rough or did it just start doing this? When you replaced the plugs, did you replace them one at a time?
As far as the Thermactor port goes, check out this thread...it may very well solve your problem.
