I recently read on another forum that the EX had a D50 in it from '00 thru '02 then was switched to the D60 after that.
Is this true because I thought all Ex's had D50's.
No question about it. All Excursions have the Dana 50. The Dana 50 was used in the 1999 Super Duties when they were designed, and the Excursion was a modification of that platform. Later, in 2004, the SuperDuties were re-speced with the Dana 60 axles, but the Excursion was not changed.
As a matter of fact, the 2001 Excursions had some small changes from the 2000 models, Mostly electrical. The 2001 models through 2004 wwere nearly identical except for small style changes. The 2005 differed from the earlier models in that the front bumper, headlights, grill and mounts are diifferent, the front blocker beam and hangers are different, and they deleted some standard features in the 2005. (underhood light, underhood blanket, etc.) There are also different maximum towing limits, as the tow capacity was increased over the years. The hitch was a different model number between early and later years.
