Today pulling my 24' trailer the truck starting vibrating making me think it was a rough road. Sometimes a rough road will make the trailer (bumper pull) jerk the truck around a little. No such luck, I pulled over and the motor was acting like it was running out of fuel. My fuel gauge (electric fuel system) was on 70lbs. I got under the truck and opened the pet **** on my water separtor type fuel filter and nothing came out??? I then realized that only a few miles back I had switched from the front tank to the rear one. I had run the front tank down to the bottom of the red mark before switching so I pumped some fuel from my aux tank into my front one and switched over to it. After a little while it cleared up and away we went. Shouldn't I have gotten something out of the pet **** on the fuel filter, water or fuel? The way I see it the filter can't be clogged because I had 70lbs of fuel pressure!? Could I have sucked up some water when I switched to the back tank making it run rough? If so, why didn't my water separtor type fuel filter catch the water? Tomorrow I'll change the filter, maybe even cut it open to see what I can see. Oh, I always run my tanks almost dry because I have the aux tank as a back up so I don't think I sucked up some junk from the bottom of the front tank before switching but who knows. And, with a fuel filter/ water separtor, you open the pet **** and nothing comes out does that mean you never got any water and everything is OK?? I just thought fuel would come out too. Thanks
Glenn
Where is your water separator mounted in relation to the pump? Mine are mounted between the pump and tank and I can't drain it with the engine running. Because it's on the suction side of the pump all it does suck air if I open the drain with the pump running.
Rodney, Mine is mounted between the pump and the engine and yes, I left the pump running. Based on what you say, mine should have been pouring out liquid unless the filter is pluged? If the filter is pluged then why 70lbs of fuel pressure? Before I change the filter I'll see if it will drain anything. Thanks

Reason: wrong wording
Rodney, I was wrong, mine is like yours, the filter is inbetween the tank and the pump. Sorry about mistating that. So Dave, like Rodney said, I was sucking air into the system by opening the pet ****. No wonder nothing came out. With the pump off today I drained the filter, no water was in there, thus no plugged drain ****. I put on a new filter and drove 100 miles today without any problems. Still don't have an answer to my orginal problem of the motor acting like it was running out of fuel??? I ran most of those miles on the rear tank, the tank that I switched to and then had problems. Maybe it was a hiccup with the ICP, IPR or CPS??
