I have a 1992 F-250 that goes dead after it runs for about 10 minutes. When this happens there is zero fuel pressure/fuel at the pressure valve on top of the fuel filter. It restarted for me after sitting over night but ran very rough and died again after running for a short time. I had just replaced the fuel tanks, lines between tanks and tank selector switch, and fuel pump. The motor was rebuilt 10k ago but the injection system and lines/hoses are original. I attempted to replace the fuel filter but found that the one that is on there does not have the screw on bottom piece anymore. It is a fram filter with a drain **** on the bottom. Can someone shed some light on this problem? Also, is there a place that sells a rebuild kit for the injection system?
Odd one. The fact that you have no fuel flow or pressure at filter head would normally make me think that your lift pump was u/s. I would check it despite the fact that it is new. Check also for air leaks in the fuel line from the tank to the pump. Check out the water seperator-these can leak.
You probably need a new fuel filter.
The old fuel filters for the 6.9 motors will fit the fuel header, they just do not have the bottom piece to drain the water out of. The 6.9 filters were something like 5 bucks each, the newer ones with the place to screw on a bottom piece are over 20 each.
You may have to change the filter a little more often if you can not drain the water out.
