Good topic. I havn't used it, so I checked their website.
The info they give there says Maxlife has seal conditioners, extra detergent and dispersant, along with friction modifiers.
With the exception of the 'seal conditioners', this is the same info they give for their conventional motor oils. They don't give any real technical data to support that Maxlife exceeds the requirements or performance of any other oil with the same API rateing.
I might be willing to try Maxlife if they listed a technical data sheet for all their oil, for comparison. A lot of the major oil companies make this information available.
I am using it in my 92 Crown Vic which has 160,000 + miles on it. That year of 4.6 has tendency for valve guides to go bad. Mine has, and it uses a quart every 1000 miles. The maxlife has not helped in this case.
What is interesting about this motor is that it has been very well looked after and when she started using oil it started overnight.
Other than that I have no leaks and everything is okay. It is not hurting anything that I can tell.
My crown vic uses oil too. Maxlife or any other oil could not stop this because your valve guides are made of metal and the burning is coming from oil leaking through into the cylinder.
Used it on my 1993 Chevy 2x4 Pickup, with 110,000 and it didn't perform any different than the regular Valvoline I used before. Maybe that's a good sign, that nothing has happened. Every 3,000! So far so good. I just gave it away to a good friend and I will see what he tells me. I also had the compression checked and it was outstanding, so who knows? Good luck.
It doesn't claim to increase the longevity of the engine if I recall. They do claim that it makes your gaskets swell and get more pliable to keep leaks from starting. I'll look at a bottle today at work.
i've been using if for about three monthes now. I've changed it three times, i put about 3000 miles on a month and it seems to be helping my front seal leak. It has slowed down considerably.
I'm still going to have to change it eventually, but for now it is working.
I have used max life for the last two oil changes and has stop my small leaks and i have gone from on 200 to 300 mile trips without having to add a thing. I drive a 1989 Econoline 150 with a 351w with 130.000 miles. Using 10w-40 Vavloline Maxlife and a Purolater filter. In other words I love the stuff!!!
I dunno - most engines are going leak sooner or later, for a variety of reasons.
I've been running MaxLife for almost 7,500 miles now, and it's delivered on every promise Valvoline made (see my "Valvoline MaxLife Findings, Part III" thread)
I'm getting an oil analysis done pretty soon here, so we'll find out if it's taking care of business at the current intervals (5,000 miles)
