Looking to see if anyone had some great dyno proven combinations. I want to give the ol bronco a little more power. Ok, really, I mainly want the sound of a decent cam, lol, but I want to do it right and get parts that all work together. So, if anyone has some proven heads/cam/intake combos please post up. On a side note, I already put a new 650 holley 4bbl on it so that should suffice. Dont really need it to be extremely powerful but do want a noticable lopey idle without the ability to over rev springs. BTW, it is an 85 Bronco with the C6 auto. Here is a picture, lol (picture *****)
Just like everyone always says, I would like to spend as little as possible. But, I do understand that a good set of heads cost a good ammount of money. so, as far as money goes, I have seen the edelbrock topend kit going for 1800 so I guess we can say less than 2k is good.
You said you want sound. What I am guessing is, maybe you should start with a cat back 3 inch system with 2 chamber flow masters. That will get you the deep throaty sound you want. Will be fine with HP upgrades as you do them.
As for the heads, you can make your heads flow by simply taking out that darn knuckle in the exhaust port.
Comp cams makes a mild cam called the "thumpr series" I think thats what you should consider.
Dont want to go to big on the cam, unless its a stick...(you said C6 so) It doesnt sound like you want to loose drivability though
Also forgot to mention the cats are gone and I have dual 2.5 inch exhaust all the way to the back. It does suck not having overdrive though. Might have to figure out some sort of stall also, lol.
That is a clean lookin truck, If it were mine I wouldnt hack it up to bad. cats gone are good. You could go with 2 chamber flowmasters, 2.5in and 3 out... Keep it reliable. If you want take the heads to a machine shop, have them freshned up, new springs, seats, haveum port/ polish them, get that nuckle out of the exhaust, maybe $500 into the set. I dont know what kind of manifold you have, but a nice dual plane performer, or performer RPM.
I figure around $1200 maybe with a thumpr cam and lifter set. Springs to match DOuble roller timing chain to
Dont forget the water pump, A nice Hi flow pump to keep it cool
The bronco was a 5.8 H.O. so it still has the stock 4bbl intake. How do the gt40 heads work on these motors? The head bolts are different sizes correct? Will the rockers swap out with ease? I found a set for $300 bucks. I could have those gone through and new springs put in.
Gt40's will certainly help, add some 1.7 roller rockers and headers and you'll have most of what that edelbrock package will deliver. I'm not a fan of the Eddy stuff actually.. have seen numerous vehicles that simply didn't perform to expectations with the Performer packages. The Vic and RPM stuff is another story but it's more $$ too.
Also consider some RHS or Dart iron heads(180cc version)they're a hugh deal at $550 or so a piece complete and have the potential to deliver up to around 400hp with a cam and intake. Comp cams 35-238-3 would be a nice upgrade from the stock bumpstick too.
Look at the edelbrock air-gap manifold and also check out patriot performance Alum. heads, they are really cheap just make shure you get them bare cause the hardware they use are proudly made in the sweat shops of that turd hole i call China, and for the cam dont go Thumper series unless you are putting it in a lightweight car, especially a automatic, i would look at the xtreme energy or extreme 4x4 series
