hello all. i posted a thread about a month ago (loss of coolant) i was getting water/antifreeze in my oil with no smoke or steam out the exhaust. well i tried everything possible and could not find the source of the internal leak.i pulled and tested the oil cooler it held 40 lbs on the oil side with no bubbles in the water side.at this time i just finished pulling the left head the gasket looked great.im a little reluctant to pull the other ive had a lot of people say most likely a cracked block. my truck was very well taken care of and only has 140 thou miles. i just dont know whether to og with a used longblock (if one can be found) or a reman block and prey i dont have the same problemdown the road.if funds wernt a problem i thing i would swap in a cummins. i just dont know how the remans are holding up.i forget the truck is a 03 f-250 with a dp tuner 5"exhaust afe intake hpx oil cross over and has never been abused.
Absolutely. Why do go through all the trouble of a new engine if all you need is a gasket? Also, look closer at your water pump.. There have been guys losing coolant at a slow enough rate that it won't drip, but does leave stains as it dries up. Especially look at the lower hose connection area.
believe me i wish it were a external leak.the oil in the pan looks good but the valve covers were filled with snot on the undersides ive changed oil five times in the past three weeks ive also removed the oil plug and put 15 psi on the coolant system for a few hours and did not get any water out the oil plug.
the engine was warm not hot when i tested it. it took a while to drain the oil and hook up the radiator test pump.i am lossing about a gallon of water a day about 70 miles round trip, and thats with the coolant cap loose but my oil level on the dipstick doesnot seem to change.
i guess ill be pulling the cab and the other head this weekend i really dont have much to loose at this point the other head is back on and complete. that took me about 13 hours. i realy didnt enjoy torquing the heads in the truck.
Did you actually have the head looked at? We've pulled heads off of tractors that looked fine to the human eye, but had hair line fractures or the head was warped just the slightest bit.
no i didnt have the head tested but ive seen lots of blown head gaskets and cracked heads . even my buddy whos shop im using said the head and gasket looked great and he's a expert mechanic.
