im not sure on this either but i think the close ratio 4spd's might have been used in the early 80's diesel trks?????

That would make a lot of sense, as diesels don't work real well with wide ratios. However, I did find an older thread on this forum that talked about them being in '70's trucks too and I've found it mentioned a few other times elsewhere. What we need is someone like NumberDummy to speak up about this if he can find the info.

ford had a close ratio from 64-87 with a ratio set of 4.78 1st, 2.39 2nd, 1.37 3rd, 1.00 4th
not sure on the reverse gear ratio sorry

i had this trans behind a 400 f350
