How would a truck with a 351 Cleveland and 3:55 gears do with 33 inch tires for on road only use? Also it has a C6 and the motor is far from stock. Right now with the 30-31 tires it seems to get up and go pretty good, WOT first to second turns the tires over on dry pavement but is spins around 2500-2600rpm at 65mph.
I was also curious as to how close the front and rear ratios should be. This stuff is new to me and I plan on upgrading tires and gearing in the future.

3:55's definitely aren't ideal for you (even with the tires you're running now). They'll work, of course, but a better bet would be 3:89's or 4:10's. 33's will drop your highway rpms, but you'll definitely notice less power off the line. Believe me, the difference of 2" of tire really is more noticable than you'd think. If your gears are close to correct in the first place, that difference wouldn't be such a big deal.

Gears should always be the same ratio front and rear so that you don't have one end trying to go a different speed than the other. However, sometimes the number won't be exactly the same, but instead will be awful close. For example, mine are 4:11 and 4:10. You don't want to be running a 4:10 and a 3:89 together though (or any other combination like this).
I can't tell you exactly if that's a good combo. You'll have to make that decision yourself. I can provide you with another chart that is a bit different than the last and seems to be a bit more optimistic about using higher gears (numerically lower) with larger tires. It does look like 3:73's with 33's are out on the furthest edge with this one. That's where my combo is right now. While it works, like I said earlier, I wish I had lower gears than I do.
Yellow - Highway Driving, Good Fuel Economy
Green - Daily Driver, Best Overall Performance
Blue - Most Power and Towing, Reduced Fuel Economy
This is at 65 mph with a manual. Automatics will have slightly higher RPM's.
Thanks for all the info, hearing you guys gripe back and forth was kinda entertaining and listening to both sides of opinons i am still stuck in the middle between the 3.90 and 4.10, i would probaly enjoy 4.10s more but i also dont want a truck that tops out at 60mph, im just gonna have to man up and pick one and live with it. And to the gentleman who posted

Actually, both are correct. Depending on whether you have a wide ratio np435 or not.
Anyway, at least you got some info from this thread...
Ok, I did some digging, and I'm still not 100% sure on this, but I'd say that most Fords had the wide ratio (w/ 6.69:1 1st). However, I've found multiple references to there also being a close ratio gearbox used by Ford. I know for a fact that both Dodge and Chevy used both close & wide ratio NP435's, but I can't find a solid source to verify or deny that Ford did also.
