Ok guys, I dont know much about suspension.. so here it goes. The front end of my 77 150 4x4 goes nuts everytime i hit a bump at 30+. steering wheel goes crazy, front end goes side to side until you come to a complete stop. The bushings in the (i think) drag link are worn out. It goes from a bracket on the frame on the drivers side, to the axle on the passenger side. The thing is, there arent any tie rod ends on em, and i cant find anything call "drag link" parts in any parts catalogs. can someone tell me what i'm lookin for?
Thanks
John
That is called the track bar. A common problem with those is the hole on the axle gets worn out. Best way to fix it is to install an Ingalls tapered bolt and replace the bushings on the driver side bracket.
Search death wobble and you'll find more.
If your interested in doing this to yours I have a brand new bolt and the tapered reamer you could use to install. PM me for the details.
Well, i see how that can help the problem. and btw this is the front sway bar, right? I'm not too sure if replacing that part is necessary, since when you turn the steering wheel you can see the bushing on the drivers side is worn to nothing. the bar slides about one inch in each direction. i think replacing this part would help. BUT i cant find the right bushings in any catalogs...in my MAC's catalog the only one made for a 4x4 is 78-79. The pre 78 has end links, and the cupped washers, and it's only for 2wd. But the 78-79 says Front stab to frame, bushing, 4wd Reg. cab. this description fits. Do you think this could have been installed later? or could the fact that it is an F150 Custom have anything to do with it?
Thanks
John
Got a camera? Take a picture. It sounds like you described the track bar in your first post. The sway bar mounts to the axle with saddle clamps and outer end links that mount to the frame.
What you are talking about is the front axle track bar assy. The Ford p/n is
D8TZ-3B239-A. The bushings aren't available by themselves, it comes as an assy.
I don't know if this part is obsolete from Ford but it should be available from the aftermarket parts houses.
The parts you showed from Bronco Graveyard won't work, those are for the sway bar.
I take that back, those bushings ARE what you need! Either one will work, the red are harder than the black ones and are for more severe service. Sorry, I was talking about the first link you posted and didn't catch the second link until I went back and look at it again.
