Soooo I went out the other morning and noticed there was a definite gaping hole where my tailgate used to be... Some people...Anyway I'm looking at a replacement on craigslist for around $250 in excellent condition, and am wondering if I only need to get an new 7700 badge to make the truck whole again, and where to get it... (Can't stand dealer ripoffs)
Secondly is there anything I can do for the future in order to prevent such an easy lift, other than a locked tonneau cover?

a cheap method that is commonly used in the superduty forum is to take a hose clamp and place it onto the bottom of the tailgate at the point where the tailgate slides on and off.
if you look at post # 13 in this thread you can see a picture of what im talking about.
really about the only way to deter a theft cause if a thief wants anything they will get it, to bad they cant apply that mentality to getting a job though.
sorry for losing the tailgate, sucks when stuff gets stolen..
for the emblem look on ebay, rockauto, FTE parts guy (has a new website and name that im trying to find the link to, hopefully someone can post it up), and i found these guys when i did a search also
I sent emails to both Partsguyed.com and fordemblem.com, so hopefully I can get it from one of them. Thanks again for the point out on those threads, those are a great source of info... Makes the loss not feel so bad.
P.S. I went to college in Longview, but live in California now. I miss my BBQ!
My tailgate locks on my 01. I keep it that way. Or are they bypassing that somehow? Not trying to be a smartass. I realize locking it only keeps the amatures from doing it, if somone knows what they are doing they can pick the lock within seconds.
Finally got around to purchasing the new tailgate off Craigslist.. It isn't quite as pretty, but it makes the truck whole again. I wish I had known how easy they were to pick in the first place... Now for the hose clamp and locking mechanism...
