For those that remeber - my Excursion got broke in to in Gastonia, NC back in Feb 07 and they got my Garmin GPS, we'll it happened again today in San Antonio, TX and the b@stard got away with my Magellan GPS this time.
We had taken the kids to Chuck E Cheese (we dont have one locally, so we had to drive 150 miles to SA), and it was ~5 pm - still broad day light. The a-hole parked right next to my truck, popped the lock and was sitting in the front seat when Tammy walked out and saw him. She yelled at him and he casually closed the door, got in his car and fled the scene... but Tammy got the tag number.
It looks like he simply used a screw driver to twist the drivers door lock - the key no longer works, but it still locks/unlock with the FOB and door panel button.
We called the SA PD and filed the report, so hopefully they will catch him soon. Not that I expect to get anything back, I'd just like to see him caught - but then again, I'm sure it will be too little punishment for the crime.
sounds like you need a german shepard, pit bull ,or akita i think i spelled that right
anyway sorry about what happened
at least the wife tha kids are ok, good luck with the alarm
What about the special code those GPSs need to use it? Is that a waste of time by Garmin? Some people disable the keylocks and use the FOB because the creeps know about the easy entry on all those models. His car was probably stolen anyway. If he lives in CA or OR they will probably say; DON'T DO THAT AGAIN! and let him go. One reason I moved from OR to CA was because they were so broke in OR they only jailed crooks for violent crimes and now it is like that here in California too. I would definetly get even with that creep if I had a chance. I put my Garmin in the console in suspicious places and don't have it out unless I need it that day. It is pretty much only visable when I am using it.
Sorry to here that Mark, I don't leave my Garmin in the truck any time.
Exv10- Not all Garmins come with the Garmin lock, I do use it on mine but you don't have to activate the lock it's up to the user, it's a code that must be entered to use the Garmin. But I'm sure there is a way around the lock somehow by resetting, I'm not sure.
Once the security lock is engaged in the Garmin, it must be sent back to the factory to be reset. If you've registered the unit's serial number, there might be a small chance you'd actually get it back.
After I had a radar detector stolen (they bashed my window out - smash and grab although the idiot had cut himself because there was some blood on the dash), I'll never leave the GPS or radar detector in view when my truck is parked.
Out of sight / out of mind. I never leave anything showing that would tempt a sleezebag car clouter. Some people even leave their glove box open when they go on hikes in the woods. They should double the penalty on car clouters. I really hate them.
Another way they know you have a GPS even with it and the mount out of sight is the circle left on the window from the suction cup. Had some friends who had their GPSs stolen locked in the glove box. I guess GPS theft and damage caused is part of the reason my insurance just went up.
That really sucks man! Well I live by the simple motto "They cant steal what they cant see." So before I shut down the engine, I stash everything out of sight. Thieves are really looking for just quick smash and grab items such as a nice GPS sitting in your window, wife's purse on the floor, etc...I don't even leave my Prodigy brake controller connected - it sits in the center console when not in use. The one thing that makes me nervous is that my DP Tuner sits on my gauge pod. I would love to have a quick disconnect option..any takers??
and speaking of stealing - How is Obumacare and Cap and Take doing ???
Quote from yahoo article:
On Sunday, Larry Summers, Obama's chief economic adviser, said the health care overhaul needs funding from somewhere and refused to rule out higher taxes on middle-income Americans.
That really sucks man! Well I live by the simple motto "They cant steal what they cant see." ...
Not true - both times the GPS was off the dash and out of sight... they just know that SD trucks are real easy to get in to and they will pop the lock, then rummage for what eve they can find - be in the 'non-locking' center console, 'non-locking' glove box or just lying around in the truck (weather out of sight or not).
