Several years ago I had a client that was really into mud racing, he had a ranger at the time that was built with a 9 inch rear end that he had swapped disc brakes onto. He told me where they came from but that was a while back and I can't remember what donor vehicle he used or exactly what he did. I do remember that it had drums and he changed them to discs, he didn't swap in a disc equipped axle. Has anybody here done this or know exactly what to do? I hate drums but don't want to put another $700-900 in a truck that won't spend all of it's time on the road. Thanks.
If it was the car lug pattern , he probably used the 95 ford explorer. We had a curry 9 inch and the directions it said to use the above suv for replacement discs.
We did a direct disc conversion on my cousins 69 fastback mustang.

The original poster said his friends ford ranger had rear disc brakes on it. I am assuming he is speaking of the small truck which has the car lug pattern. The 95 ford explorer rear discs will mount onto the car axle. If I remember correctly, my uncle had to make a spacer like a washer to go between the disc and axle. My cousin has been driving his 69 mustang like this for a few years with no problems.
I was on ebay the other day and I saw a conversion kit for like $600 and it said it used calipers and rotors from like an 80s monte carlo or something like that

There are several instances where front car calipers have been adapted to the rear for rear disc brakes. This works fine except you have no parking brake.
Is it just the lug pattern? You can send the discs out to be redrilled, and the center hub may have to be machined a little bigger (or machine the hub on the axle).Summit has a few kits rnging from $375 to $620.
