Engine must be running. Having the front wheels of the ground is optional, but it makes the process a heck of a lot easier.

Somebody else suggested that you take the hoses off the cooler and let it drain and then refill it. That work or not?

I did my flush the other day and I did notice an improvement, but then I knew my fluid was in decent shape. Still, it does drive nicer for sure, and took about 10-15 minutes with my g/f turning the wheel & pumping the brakes.

Oh boy do I feel stupid, but....
Nah, on second thought, I'm gonna pretend I already knew that there's a connection between the steering and the brakes, but that I just forgot what it was. Would somebody, uh, refresh my, uh, memory? Help an aging old fella out please?

I just flushed mine out last nite as it had PS fluid in it from when I get the oil changed and was causing some serious steering issues as well... afterward is like a new truck driving and definitely awesome on the brakes, they really respond a whole lot better. Just be careful where ur hose is when you are flushing it as mine got loose and sprayed the truck ground and everything around it but none the less I got it done and def worth the 20 bucks and little bit of time it took.....Thanks again Rick and Marv

Gassers use engine generated vacuum for power brake assist. Since we don't have vacuum on our diesel trucks, ours use pressure from the PS pump. It really should be called the "Power Steering/Power Brake Pump".

Izzy, I appreciate it. Just about self-evident from the posts, but glad to know for sure.
Thanks

Try it & let us know. I used the power-flush method, which works great. No need to re-invent the wheel... Unless you just want to.

I did try it. I got a quart or so out but I am still not sure whether it worked or not. That is why I want to see if others have tried it and had good luck with it.

Thanks for starting this thread Pat. it motivated me to do mine.

Done it last night, and no more whine from the power steering pump.

I payed $ 7.49 a quart for Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, was that a good price ?
