I have been reading about this for a while, and my steering has been a tad off ever since some fool put power steering fluid in where one might think power steering fluid would go..
Anyhow, WOW, what an improvement!!! Might I suggest to anyone that wants to do this, you may want to grab about 3' of 3/8 O.D. hose to shove into the return line, this made it real easy to control where my old stuff was going.. And to make it real easy, I would suggest a nice long tranny fluid funnel for controlling where the new stuff went
Okay, as always, thanks to all of you that made that job a breeze!!!!
Been there, done that Pat. I freaked out too, because I realized immediately after I had done it, that I read on here that it took tranny fluid instead of power steering fluid. I ran right in here and posted what I had done and the amount, and everyone said it wasn't enough to do anything. It bugged me though, so at my earliest convenience, I made the switch to Mobil 1 synthetic fluid, and man, the steering has never been better.
I recently did mine also, refilled with Mobil 1 and it sure got quieter. Some have said that their braking improved also but I didnt notice a diffrence.
I was talking to Darrell (Nissandoc) about using the Mark Kovalsky ATF Flush & Fill on my "Ricer" and found out that it uses ATF in the power steering as well. Can't remember if I added PS fluid to it or not but I do remember once adding PS fluid to the truck. It's Valvoline Mercon V now. Live & Learn as usual.
Mine road for a while with some power steering fluid in it before I switched to Mobil 1 synthetic. That was a few months ago and evrything is still fine.
..ever since some fool put power steering fluid in where one might think power steering fluid would go..
