Hi i just put this 77 f150 back together for my son to go to the
famous yankee lake to play in the mud anyhow when i started it
it started right up but when you let off of the key it dies
so once again i start it it starts but as soon as you let off
of the key it dies
More specifically, what voltage do you see on the BATT side of the coil with the key in RUN? If the numbers look right then I'd agree with Josh. An ignition module tester at the parts store would be able to catch something that big.
I notice you said you just put the truck back together...how about you also list what you've got connected where as far as the ignition system goes.
Yes i put it back together but the truck is from south carolina so i dont know anything about it
but the only wires i messed with or changed were the ones on the solinoide because is just put new cables and a new solinoide on
also there was two wires on the battery side of the solinoide that were broke off but the ends that were broke were on the terminal still so i just put new ends on the wires and put them back on
so heres what i have hooked up to the battery side of the solinoide
battery cable
orange fuseable link
black fuseable link
starter side of the solinoide
ground cable
but i tried something i took the orange wire off and tried it and nothing changed then i pook the black wire off and put the orange wire back on and nothing changed you can still start it but when you let go of the key it stalls so i put i know a good module on it from my 78 f150 which i drive everyday and it does the same thing
any and all help you guys give me is appreciated thanks john
After looking around i found my haynes manual the only wire that i can find thats not right is to take the orange wire off and put the yellow wire with the battery cable and the black fuseable link a long with the yellow wire so i changed it but it still does the same thing this is getting old i've
done alot of these trucks and have never had this much trouble thanks john
