I found a beautiful 05 F350 DW 4x4 with 6.0 diesel loaded 70k miles under warranty. I would really like to buy it. But I got the Oasis report and it looks like it's been in the shop a bit. I'm not accustomed to having a truck in the shop often and this worries me even under warranty because it's an inconvenience.
I can't make heads or tails of this but it looks like the truck keeps repeating the same problem and maybe no one is able to fix it unless code 42 is the universal code for I'M SCREWED UP FIX ME.
The fact that this truck has been in the shop so often in such a short time tells me it's a real lemon. Am I misinterpreting this report? It's all Greek to me but I can understand the dates on it.
What's the general consensus? Should I pass on this one? At this point I think I might just find me a good used Freighliner M2 or an Internaitional medium duty to tow my trailers with.
Sorry I found it. Are these the only problems showing on the oasis? Because it seems like the first few years were good and just recently it has been having problems. I think mine was in for more warranty work then that but I still feel very confident in my truck.
So far as I know yes, these are all that's listed on the report. But in a six month period the truck has been in six times. I just don't know how great it is to have a truck in the shop once a month. If I knew the problems were fixed for good it might be different.
For the first code - I wonder if it was for the head gasket or EGR. I was talking with someone else on here who is looking into an EGR delete anyway. I thought head gasket issues were fairly common on those too - but I'm more familiar with the 7.3.
The rest of the codes all seem to be fuel system related. (injectors, fuel pressure regulator, etc) I wonder if bad fuel could have caused most of this?
Can any diesel mechanics out there offer more insight for our friend here?
I think I would look else where. I am wondering if this truck had a programmer on it. I understand that the 6.0 didn't take well to the added power and this to me looks to be the case.
Well this wouldn't be my only truck. But I am buying it to tow my fifth wheel when I travel. Being broke down at home where I have other vehicles wouldn't be too bad. But when I travel I want something dependable. I really like the looks of the truck. I just don't want to take on someone else's problems.
I am going to take alot of hits for this but here it goes...
I wouldnt buy a diesel. My sons have them, they are way to much maintanence. But they do blow black smoke, and look and sound really cool.
I really like my 5.4 liter. But I here alot of good things about the V10 so.
I tow 12500 on occasions and have no problem.
I was impressed by the 7.3 litier PSD but after 2000 dont think I would buy one of them, the 6.0, or the 6.4. I would consider one if the maint was less, and longevity and reliablity was better, Kind of like a semi. These engines just arent there yet.

naw man move on,,, dont buy used unless you are real confident that its a good truck if you buy this one you will always be worried about it trust is what you want go find it
Yeah, I think I've made up my mind just to go ahead and buy a used Freightliner M2 or an International 4200 / 4300. My old 2001 F350 is still going strong but under the current load I don't think it will forever and I need a backup. I had hoped to buy a nice late model one ton as a back up so I could also use it for a daily driver as needed. But I guess my 01 will handle that.
