2001 V10 4X4 with 3.73 I average around 11 empty with mixed driving. The best I've seen was 14 and that was with the wheeler in the back. Last camping trip pulling the TT I got 6.8 on the way there and 11.2 on the way back. Why can't there be a tailwind in both directions....LOL
02 F250 super cab long bed 4x4 7.3 6 speed. Normally i get 18-18.5 with mostly highway driveing and a bit of around town. If i do mostly city driving it seems like 14 or so. Dont drive it like that much. On very long highway trips with a light load in the bed i can just get 20+ if all is perfect. I can go over 700 miles with the one 38gallon tank. If im towing the 17ft Whaler i get 16-17. Not a heavy boat. Joe
I have gotten as low as 5.8 pulling a large enclosed trailer into a 50 mph head wind, and an all time high the other day of 15.1 (all #'s hand calculated) 15.1 was in hilly terrain that had both inclines and declines.
Now don't just say you get 22.3 mpg and keep the secret all to yourself! What have you done to your truck? Inquiring minds want to know!
Do you hand calculate, and how many miles do you usually drive between fill ups?
I put Diesel Kleen in with every fill up, run 10 gallons of bio diesel through every week and drive right at 400 miles between fill ups. And yeah, I hand calculate. As far as the truck goes, I'm sure it's stock. Bought it in '04 with 26k miles on her. I've never done a thing to it but change the oil ~ Rotella full synthetic 5W-40. She has a six-speed and I keep it right on 1,800 rpm.
Snowbunny, I followed your advice and ran as close to 1800 rpm as possible. (What I mean is that I just can't make myself go less than 65 mph so I was somewhere near 1900 rpm. ) You're absolutely right! I got 22 mpg on a 425 mile trip! That is amazing!
I'm going to make another long trip later this week and will see if it was a fluke or is repeatable.
I'm averaging 18.33 MPG (U.S.) combined over 42,000 km on the truck. I seem to get 21 +- 4 depending on the wind direction & season on the highway with a best of 25.85 with a huge tailwind. I travel at 68-70 mph all the time.
I keep detailed records in a tech gallery along with when the mods were done but I haven't updated it in a while. Truck is a 07 F350 Reg cab 2WD with 6.0L and 6 Spd manual tranny, best combination you can do for fuel economy. I have a AFE Filter in the stock box, intake elbow, muffler delete, aired up tires, tonneau cover, Quad XZT Fuel box and religiously use fuel additives.
I also have a 6-speed. How much did the tuner improve your fuel economy?
I've not ever purchased a tuner because I just can't find anybody with a 7.3L manual that saw any improvements. I'm curious what happened with your 6.0L.
