I finally broke down and bought 2 new 65k mile Yokohoma's last week. It is unbelievable what a difference it made. I kept 2 Conti's that still have good tread(moved them to the back). The ride AND road noise is soooo much better. It's like a new car. I got a lot of miles, almost 80k, from the Conti's but I'll never buy another one: too much noise
You should always put the new tires on the back. 80k miles is impressive. I have almost 60k on the Conti's and they still look brand new. I agree, they are noisy as all heck but they sure do wear well.
O yes always new tires to the rear. When I bought our Escape in 03 after about 10k I wanted to rip those POS Contis off the thing. BUt I waited and put Firestones on and they are 50 times better. You wont get good wear out the Yoko at least I ve never seen them last.
I have seen other posts where it's said to put the new tires on the back. Why? I would think the new tires should go on the drive wheels.
Many people think the same thing - I did too until my Father-in-Law (40 yrs. @ Goodyear) told me always new tires on back. I think the reasoning is traction. If your vehicle is going to lose traction, it will usually start in the rear of the vehicle. I don't know the exact theory behind it but I know all tire experts recommend this.
Did a tire shop install the new tires on the front? If they did, I would find a new shop.
