another question guys. I have had my truck less then a year. it is an 01 F250. I went to the beach last weekend and after my trip was spraying off the bottom of my truck ect.... noticed that my leaf springs and diferential cover has some surface rust.. nothing horrible but i dont want it to get that way. Any ideas.... is it ok to sand down a bit and paint with rustolium high heat paint?

your worried about that???? my rear diff is leaking through all four of the bottom of my fenders have no paint one off my upper fender has bubbling under the paint, and 3 of my cab lights have bubbling all around them,so im having at 2 tone done on the bottom and my roof is getting repainted about 600 bucks worth of work.gotta love the north east..im just telling you this to make you feel better about you rust problem
I just had to replace my rear diff cover, as it was puking my very expensive oil all over the place..... two oil changes within 6 months. The new cover got a custom paint job while I had it readily accessible. Now to go do my oil pan. I have a por-15 kit in the garage, but no major motivation. Maybe someone should post some pics of an oil pan change to motivate me.
You could go with an aluminum pan, Joe, Izzy350 put one on his and it looks great. He'll give you the details, great price I know he got it for..He'll be by...
I also had to replace my diff. cover. Just got OEM though. If you want to see rust, come look at mine. I had to cut out, sand and fill in with gorilla hair both rear wheel arches. Then I covered them up with some neat-o bushwacker street flares. Outta sight, outta mind.
when i get mine done,im going to have go over the arcs on the fenders in place of fender flairs.it will look a little goofy but its better than nothing.
Sorry, I guess I've been missing this thread (thanks Mike!)...
Here are my before & after pics:
I got the cover from Ed the FTE Parts Guy (Y2K Parts now) for about $50 shipped to my door. I spend about another $20 on stainless steel bolts & washers. The stock bolts are too short. You need 1 1/4" bolts, but I got 1 1/2" bolts to work since I couldn't find the 1 1/4" bolts on Saturday. I had to shim a couple with an extra washer to keep them from bottoming out. You can also get it from another site sponser (I forget again) for about $80 with non-stainless bolts. Up to you. I also used Royal Purple syn 75W-140 in it. So far so good...
EDIT: Oh, and I used gray Permatex to seal it. And you can click either of the pics to take you to my WebShots account with more pics, if you need them. It's a straight forward job though...
Rustoleum makes a great rust reformer paint now days.I have been slowly soaking my frame down with it. I just get mine at Wally World but this is the same thing i just found with google.
I've got a 10 year old truck that has spent its entire life in the northeast. Previous owner wasn't terribly particular about it either.
A good wire brush, a creeper, 6 cans of black Rustoleum, and a few hours later my frame is now black instead of rust-colored. But I need to put another coat on it soon.
If you're going Rustoleum and will do the entire underside I recommend spray cans as they allow you to get into nooks and crannies better. Just be prepared to get covered in paint since you're laying under it shooting up.
would the truck bed liner spray be good to do under neith????

POR 15 is awesome, they make a system just for RUST coverage on frames, it turns thr rust to metal and then you coat over it. I have used the POR15 Blackcoat on roll bars for race stuff for years, you can hit it with a hammer and it wll not chip. The most important thing is to not brush it twice, once it starts to dry if you brush it you'll leave a dull spot. You can go back and fix it once it dries...
Eastwood also sells some decent rust coverage paint. I've been thinking about doing mine this fall, just looking for the motavation..lol
Did the whole underside of my Jeep.. On so thick it looks like undercoating.
Brushed/hammered all the rust i can off.. Bought a gallon of rustoleum. Did not delute it with paint thinner. Poured it in my Wagner Power painter (no after spray and thick spraying able) and sprayed it on. Still holding up nicely.. I did it early spring. The paint out of the gallon jug is way better than spray cans. More durable and performs better. I only wish i could have found Flat black. Got a semi gloss.
That wagner power painter is one of my favorite tools.. Will almost shoot grease through it.
Edit. Had a picture stored on my cell phone. Here is the jeep. When i took this picture i noticed by the picture my rotors were on the wrong side. I checked for stickers and indeed i had them wrong.
