what size rear speakers are in my truck?? like a 3x5 or 6x9 anyone have any clue??? i was lookin to upgrade just a lil, and that plastic piece that the speaker sits behind, like on my B post is it just held on by all them clips?? i didnt see any screws soo idk what else could be holding it?
They are 6x8 actually. You *can* get a 6x9 to fit but you'll need to make an adapter/spacer. There are plenty of very good 6x8s out there; pioneer, infinity, polk, kicker... lots of options.
Hijacking... If my truck came with the factory option premium stereo, with the 6 disk changer, are some speakers I pick up from Best Buy going to be better than what I have? I would like a deeper bass, but I don't know if a subwoofer would be a better option?
Thanks
ok soo i need to fig out what wires go where on my speakers i got...i got 6x8 pioneers and on the back of the speakers theres 2 terminals that need push connectors one wider than the other...which one is ground and which one is hott....and another thing how in the heck do i know which wire is hott and ground on my truck?? i believe i had an orange with red stripe and a brown with pink on pass side i cant remember driver side...

If you want bass, get a sub. As for upgrading, yes, Best Buy will have better speakers than what you have. Your factory "premium" stereo probably has paper cones whereas the newer ones will have better materials. Even if your speakers have something besides paper, your speakers are 6+ years old so even a reasonably priced set of 6x8 speakers from a good brand (i.e. Alpine, Kenwood, Polk, Pioneer, etc.) will sound better due to 6 years of technological improvements and all the parts are new.
For even better sound you can replace all your speaker wire as well.
What would you recommend for a cheap but effective sub set up? I've seen tube subs taht have the amps built in. THey're cheap, but do they work?

I owned a car audio shop for nearly 6 years and believe it or not, I never heard a single powered subwoofer. Infinity Basslink has pretty good reviews and would be about the only thing I could recommend (based on overall customer satisfaction) as far as those go. I sold plenty of them, just never listened to them!
I ran new wires in my Mustang a few weeks ago. Its not hard and it makes it easier to run an amp to them in the long run.

Seems like I could fit this under my rear seat (supercab). But, is it ok to lay it down flat, so the speakers are pointing up? If I can find a cheap one on ebay or something, I might get it.
