[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Oct-02 AT 03:19 PM (EST)]Anyone know of a site where one might find SideXSide comparisons of some of the major (and minor for that matter) companies motor oil products in re. to make-up (base and additives) as well as any independent tests showing results of standardized (API\SAE), in addition to (more importantly) severe type testing (such as they do in europe - ACEA and\or whatever). I am currently racking my lil' cranium (actually BIG head - small 'innards') for several vehicles (mine, wife, mom and daughter) for winter changeover. Two Fords, a Honda and a Subaru (Fords and "Sube" are in the 60-80k range, Honda closing in on 110,000). Any advice, suggestions, comments, remarks, replys, responses or opinions accepted and appreciated ! Glenn ;-)
I would feel pretty confident with any name brand oil that meets the current API 'SL' category and GF3 standard, this lets you know they have passed some pretty tough tesating.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Oct-02 AT 04:16 PM (EST)]I appreciate the response - and I do feel "pretty confident", it's just that it's my family, their transportation (safety) and, in some instances, extended intervals or less than timely attention to the basics I am concerned with as we all live some distances apart, and "I'm the man", if you know what I mean (?) Thanks again, Glenn...
I am preparing to change the oil in my wife's car to Mobil Drive Clean 5w30. Mobil has the product data sheets on their web site and the numbers looked good, low temp. flow and flash point near 400 degrees. It also advertises a great detergent package.
Thanks mikemc - I've long had confidence in all of Mobil's product's, here's where my mind goes with it though, and I'm just trying to be honest - are they THE BEST??? I always fear for the same money, maybe a LITTLE more (better yet, a little LESS) that maybe I could do better, and then I think, I could be missing out on some benefits that another brand might offer that would apply better to my particular need(s). I found that "Drive Clean" Mobil about a year ago at a Grand Opening of an Advance Auto for like .69 cents a quart - bought two cases - used every drop - and I recall it being the first oil I saw with the current "SL\GF-3" designation - just some thoughts - thanks again, and I'll check out that web-site - Glenn . . .PS - a couple of guys here at FTE are really high on Chevron oil - I GET SOOO CONFUSED...HAHA!
