Ya just fixed mine this weekend. took it off and mig welded plugs in each end of it, no more leaks to intake. Cut scoop out of pipe and welded plug there also. cost me nothing but my time and gasket kit.

Steve's is even easier - he does not have a scoop in the up-pipe.
I got a 2004 up-pipe for $50. I an having the recirculation flange welded up. I also have an old EGR valve that I am welding shut. My EGR system delete will be the up-pipe swap and the EGR "plug".

Mark, do you even need to mess with the EGR valve if you block the exhaust flow?
I am also welding up an EGR valve to be cautious. Since I am not planning on removing the EGR cooler (or even welding it up), I wanted to be sure that an EGR cooler coolant leak would not get into the intake through a weak EGR valve (even if it were in the "commanded closed" position).

Mark.......after a discussion on another thread I tested the EGR valve spring on a spare EGR valve I had. I was surprised how easy it moved. When I did it before I thought it was hard to move. Must have done it backwards. Getting old sucks! So I removed the EGR valve and got some high temp epoxy. I put the epoxy on the end valve only and reinstalled. I thought that if I ever had to use the EGR valve again a heat gun or small torch would release the epoxy and a wire wheel would clean the residue off the valve and seat. Welding is kind of a permanent thing.
DSMMH - I appreciate the suggestions. I am not too worried about the EGR valve. It is an old style and a spare. I would not install it in the truck anyway. I will say that the friend who I asked to weld the valve is worried about warping it while welding. So I may be back to the epoxy idea. What type/brand of epoxy did you use?
