91 f-140 E40D

To start off i have a 1991 f-150 E40D only has about 90,000 miles on it.
I was driving down to the beach going a steady 70mph the whole way and i looked down and my check engine light was on and then i heard two loud pops and the light went off. I pulled off the road and looked up under and it was loseing tranny fluid. my dad came and dollyed it home and actually drove it off the dolly and to the side of the house said it worked normal sounded normal. well that was a week ago and i just got back and pulled the inspection cover and ran a magnet down in there and pulled out two peices of metal there's probably more but this is what was right there. i have knowlege of transmissions soooo i'm hopeing yall can help

Thanks
Kyle

Yeah i had my friends dad look at the peices and about 10mins later he's like pull the starter i know at least what the lock ring is to. and then later figured that the cap is from a low side of the pump cause it started leaking fluid so i figured the two pops were the lock ring comming off the starter and hitting the flywheel and then knock off the cap or some order. so it's not as bad as i thought but not as good as i hoped. tomorrow im going back to where i got the starter and get a replacement cause i only replaced it two months ago and then go get a new cap and drop the trans and fix that then i should be good to go. Haha but now that this happened im gonna be putting away some money enough to sell this truck and get a newer one.

Thanks for the help
Kyle

The cap is on the end of the starter and the "C" clip holds the drive gear.
Replace the starter.

As for the fluid leak you may have overheated the transmission and it puked fluid out.
A common problem.

Fill the transmission, drive it around and keep an eye out.

Check the cooling system, fan, rad etc.

If the "C" clip got tangled in the pump seal it wouldn't quit leaking on it's own.
