06 EB Expedition.
Look's like we just broke our second dash vent. On both the linkage that keeps the louvers aligned failed.
Is this common or is my family just too rough on vents?
Is there a easy fix on these or where is the best place to obtain replacements.
The first one failed under warranty, but this one's mine.
Thanks in advance for the help.
My Expedition is a 97 and has all of the original dash vents. Time to have a talk with the family.
Probably need to have a long talk with the family bout lots of things....but, the vents in a 97 would be like the ones in our 2000. Never had a problem with those. The ones in the 06 are the round ones with the chrome trim and the two big louvers.
Both passenger side louvers in my '06 Expedition are broken as well and I actually witnessed how one of them ended up that way. The silver rotational keeper ring had been turned so that the louver direction was blowing air towards the ceiling..previous passenger had left it that way (not wanting direct a/c blowing on them). I gave my neighbor a ride afterwards and he was looking for direct air...not knowing how the rotational vent worked, he thought he could just pull down on the louver. SNAP! The pressure on the plastic arm on the back of the louvers caused all kinds of little plastic connecting points to fail. Ugh!!!
Here's a site that sells them (haven't checked the price against local dealers). They appear to be about $27 a set. If the link doesn't take you directly to the part, do a site search on "Louver". http://www.partswebsite.com/fordpart...006&type=parts
They are definitely easy enough to replace...the silver rotational ring pops off. Just be extra careful not to exert too much force...they have little plastic tabs that click into the vent assembly.
At $27 a pop, I think I'll start educating my passengers on how a rotational a/c vent works in the Ford world! ;-)
