My 2002 has gold coolant, so I don't need any additives. If you have green, you have to use the test strips and put the FW-16 in when it gets low. Is yours green??
I am not sure, but flushing and changing the coolant to Gold isn't that hard, you might want to just change it out. You can get the Ford gold coolant at a dealer or you can get some ELC coolant like Shell Rotella, or CAT ELC. If you do, flush the system out with Distilled water, and it might be a good idea to change the rad hoses.
Wow -- that's strange... Mine was built at the Kentucky plant and came with Gold. If yours was built there, it should've had gold in it. Do you know where yours came from?
Either way, you might think about going gold or full ELC. No test strips or additives to mess with.
2002 is when they swapped from green to gold, so the 02's might come with either.
As mentioned, the amount of SCA is dependent on the condition of the coolant. You need the test strips to determine how much to add. How long has it been since you tested or added any?
I bought the truck used two months ago. it has 125,000 on it and I suspect the dealer changed the coolant before I picked it up. I will test the coolant and probably change to the gold stuff. thanks for the responses.
For the money you spend on the Gold you can flush out the system, you have to do that anyway, and the put a good ELC in there, you'll be good for over 300,000 mile or better. Either way your good.
