Lund visor question

I want to remove the Lund visor on my 90 so I can take care of peeling paint on the roof. I want to reinstall the visor after the work is done. I've never installed or removed one of these so I need to know what is involved.

I am guessing that there are some bolts that will be exposed if I peel back the headliner, and that removing/replacing the visor is a simple matter of unbolting it and then bolting it back on. But I want to be sure before I start in on it. Are there any issues that I need to watch out for? And how does it seal water tight to the roof, are there special Lund seals or do I just put silicone there, or what?

Thank you!

Any luck checking with Lund for an installation manual? That might shed some light on how it's mounted. Wish I could be more help. Tina "doesn't like them" so I don't have one on mine. *grumble, grumble*

My Lund visor is bolted on form the outside. The bolt heads have a plastic cover over them and just pop off and unsrew the hold down bolts. I just did mine last winter to fix a leak.

I had a Lund Visor with the lights on my 89 Bronco. Yup just take the caps of the bolt heads on the outside on the truck.

When you reinstall the visor get some clear silicone advesive to put on the bolt threads when you reinstall it.This will make it nice ans weather tight for you.

Sounds good! It's hard to believe that self-tapping screws are all that they use to hold these on. I would think that they would be bolted on. But it's definitely on there tight so it must be ok!

I found that you can purchase new hardware kits for these so I am going to get one, mine's missing a couple of the plastic covers.

Thanks!

Yea, those self tapping screws sometimes strip out when passing a large truck on the highway. it will make a noise that will scare the hell out of you. I had to put two bolts with nuts on the inside. PITA to get under the headliner.

believe it or not but mine came with a sunvisor from the dealership in 89. from what i can see, it had tapped inserts welded into the roof that the visor bolted to. unfortunately about half of the inserts are gone now due to rust but thats how mine is.

i just filled the rust holes with expanding foam and alot of body filler and then put the screws into it with glue. solid as a rock and its has been 4 years now.

mine is also lund, but it had a dealership no name on it before that i still have. rare i believe
