I don't post but, I do read. I changed the plugs and coils on my truck for the first time. I bought it new in Sept. of 98 and have over 207,000 miles on it.
I've been procrastinating on the job for the last but, in the last week it developed a bad misfire so, I was forced to get the job done.
This is what plugs look like with that many miles on them. They're pretty white which I am guessing it is from the misfire from bad coils on 4,5, and 6 and subsequent leaning of the motor since the oxygen sensor was detecting high levels of O2 being that destination wasn't occurring. Maybe not??
Since 3 coils crapped their pants all at once I figured that I had reached the useful life on all of them and got 10 new coils and plugs.
#4 and 5 were a pain in the backside to get to. Hopefully these will last another 150-200K.
A couple had some rust on the tops of them but most of the rust is because we had a rain shower move through while I was 8/10th's of the way through and I finished up the remaining 2 3days later. Notice that 2 don't have rust on the threads? Those are the two that didn't get wet from the rain. The other 8 had sat out on the back of my Jeep for a few days before the picture was taken.
I checked the gap on the old plugs and they averaged about .070. So yeah, that's probably why the coils went bad.
