'75 f-250 with a 390, going to a 300 with all the bells and whistles, hopefully about 250 hp.
We started the swap today. My friend the mechanic, an old buddy, showed at 11 am with a 6 pack. Somehow I knew he was not going to be worth much.
Now all the linkages are finished, until the fine tuning. I'm surprised that the dizzy guy who recurved it, wrote to set the timing at 16-18 degrees advanced! Anyone ever hear of that? I think my index only goes to 15. I set it at 10 and will go from there. I like to follow the old rule: advance it till it pings, then bump it back a tad. Old school.
Saturday evening I'll be posting pix of the project, the bracket for the '94 alternator, electric fan from a 94 merc cougar with a v8, etc, and all the grease and oil too. I also went with the Lokar column replacement linkage, rather than the floor shifter. I like the space, although the floor shifter would really look cool.
hook up a vaccume guage to set your timeing. adjust the dist same way you would adjust the carb. back and fort until the best vaccume reading. it will be perfect that way, and no pinging.
Thanks. I got the same advice from Jon at Pony Carbs. It makes sense when considering the vibration dampner is 31 years old and mounted on rubber/synthetic.

as long as it's still tight don't worry about it, but if it gets loose, and starts to spin, it won't drive your waterpump, and alt properly. if you have a/c, the aircompresser, could even stop it. I found that out the hard way.
