Hello everyone. I have a 95 150 with a 300 IL6 manual transmission and CA emissions.
It has been showing the check engine light intermittently. It just wont stay on. Also every once in a while it has a hard time starting (stumbles, coughs black smoke) but this is rare. I took it in to have a diag done on it and they said that they can normally work on this year and PCM but my computer is not talking to their computer at all which leads them to believe that there is an issue with the PCM. They said my option is ford dealers... let me think...
What are my options on replacing this PCM? I can have mine rebuilt and reflashed from NAPA for 269. Is that the best option?
Also How do I get at the thing? I want to take a look at it and see if there is an obvious physical issue. Pictures welcome
I just changed mine out and if you look right underneath you cruise control box right at the hood hinge. There is a long(about 5 inches) thing that sits vertical and is about 1 inch wide. That is your PCM. To get it out you have to take wheel well down halfway till you can bend it back far enough to get to the PCM. The bolt to untighten the PCM is 10mm, the to nuts holding it in are 7/16. Once you get the fender well back far enough the PCM should slide right out with a little cussing and pulling. Also, you'll have just as much fun getting it back in. Also, let Ford put it on their computer 1st to get a 2nd opinion.
I don't really think it is your PCM though, have you checked your fuel pressure. Do you know if your fuel pumps are working. When you turn your truck on can you hear them come on. Have you thought about the fuel filter being clogged, don't do like I just did and buy a new PCM only to have it not fix my problem. Not trying to tell you what to do, but hopefully I can try and save you some money. Read my post (NEW COMPUTER MADE THINGS WORSE) I just posted it yesterday and you'll see what I'm talking about.
