PCM issues?

I think I need to have the PCM in my 97 F250 (cal) flashed. What is the process and what should it cost? Can I just take the PCM or will they need the whole animal?

You can just take the PCM to a Ford dealer for a reflash.

Assuming you're asking me, I've been chasing a P0380 code for months. I've also developed some trans codes. I've run the entire electical system and it all checks out. I took it to the shop that rebuilt the trans, they say it's in good shape and they think it's the PCM. I discovered that the "reputable" shop that put a new GPR in the truck a couple of years ago, put in a starter relay that is known to do bad things to PCMs (so I've been told). Truth is I'm stumped and don't know what else to do.

Well in that case, I think you may be chasing your tail. I think you need to have it diagnosed by someone who knows what's going on.

I actually read that thread yesterday, but I have not had time to check out the truck yet.

Yes it's acting up with different symptoms in the transmission coming and going. Sometimes the TC locks up at idle. Sometimes it holds in a gear and will not shift. These are always intermitant and change often. Sometimes, as it did yesterday on the way back to the ranch from my buddy's shop, it runs like a bat outta hell perfect. NO CODES. Pull in the shop, kill it, restart, codes? The P0380 never goes away for long. Sometimes comes back while driving.

I'll check the light and report back.

As it turns out, the third brake light was out. I didn't have time yesterday to do anything so I asked my mechanic to check it out. I'm headed out there soon to check the results myself. I'll let ya'll know soon.
